US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that the talks with Iran would resume. Trump stated so in a post on Truth Social.
However, he also added, 'in no uncertain terms', that the ceasefire between the two nations was over.
The president claimed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has asked for the continuation of the talks and that the US obliged.
The statement comes amidst renewed hostilities in West Asia that saw both US and Iran indulging in instances of intensified crossfire.
The escalations follow Trump's comments on Wednesday that the interim ceasefire agreement with Iran was “over” but that he would allow negotiations to continue between the two nations.
Trump made the comment on the sidelines of the two-day NATO summit in Turkey's Ankara.
The comments came hours after US struck Iran in what the former described as retaliation for strikes on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
